The Cordillera Vilcanota is an impressive range of mountains which include the massive SALKANTAY snow capped mountain (6,271m) and three others over 6000m. SALKANTAY is an outstanding snow peak, located less than fifty miles northwest of the city of Cuzco in south central Peru. It is the highest mountain of the Cordillera Vilcabamba. Because of its proximity to the city, it is easily accessible and is climbed frequently.
Attractive trek; made for trekkers has a changeable landscape; it is under sunrise code decentralization of trekking tours, since other tourist circuits have gotten famous in the last few years it's getting crowded, this trek is totally different than the others, it's not dirty, nor popular, so therefore it's not full of tourists going on this trek you may see distinct ecosystems spread across its different zones of altitude and climate. Itinerary
Day 1 Soraypampa - Huayracmachay:
We will leave Cusco at about 05.00 for the 4-hour bus ride to the Mollepata District. We will arrive approximately at 8.30 a.m. in Mollepata. Here we will have an excellent American breakfast. After the breakfast we drive 2 hours with an open truck reaching almost Soroypampa. Here our horses and horsemen will be waiting for carrying our camping-equipment and food. We will pass the campsite of Soroypampa. After we will continue our walking to Salkantaypampa, where we will have our lunch. We will walk for a few hours, to the Salkantay snow covered mountain, with an altitude of 4650 m.s.n.m., the highest part in our trip to Machu Picchu. We will see here the spectacular view of the Andes, the flora and the fauna typical from this region, including the beautiful Laguna Soroycocha. After we will be going down to Huayracmachay, the place of our first campsite. Here we will have dinner and spend the night in our tents.
Day 2 Huayracmachay – La Playa:
After an early breakfastat 6.00 a.m. we will start our day walking to la Playa, Chaullay, Colpapampa, Wiñaypuquio, and Lluscamayu. We will have lunch in one of these campsites. After lunch we will walk for more than four hours before arriving to La Playa village where we will set up our camp, and where we will have dinner. On this trip we will see many kinds of tropical plants, like oranges, bananas, avocado, papaya, lemons, and others.
Day 3 La Playa – Aguas Calientes:
After an early breakfast in La Playa we will take a local transport for approximately one hour to Santa Teresa District. After arriving to Santa Teresa we will cross the river and walk to the Hydroelectric Train Station for having our lunch. At 3.25 PM we will take the train to Aguas Calientes, which will take 45 minutes. In the evening we will be having a menu in a nice restaurant in Aguas Calientes. In the night you will have here the possibility to visit and enjoy the hot springs.
Day 4 Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu – Cusco:
We will wake up at 5.00 a.m. for having breakfast in our Hostal and after we will be taking the bus for arriving to the Lost City of Machu Picchu. Our guide will give a two hour explanation about everything concerning the ruins. After this we will have free time for taking pictures. The lunch and dinner on this day will not be will belong to your free-time. In the afternoon we will go back to Aguas Calientes at 4.00 pm to the train station to take the backpacker train to Cusco Optional to be considered the possibility of one extra night in Aguas Calientes.

What we recommended that you Bring?
- A backpack with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek
- Rain gear (jacket and pants if available) or rain poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco)
- Strong footwear, waterproof trekking boots recommended
- Sandals or jogging shoes for a higher comfort while at camp
- Warm clothes, including jacket, fleeces. Thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for sleeping. A down jacket is especially recommended for this trek since it runs at high altitude and temperatures may easily drop below freezing in the evening and at nights
- Camera, films and batteries (batteries consume more quickly under cold conditions)
- Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain and cold
- Sun block
- After-sun cream or hydrating cream for face and body
- Snacks: biscuits, energy bars, chocolate, raw fruits, muesli, etc. Please note that we do provide a daily morning snack.
- Small towel
- Swimsuit (if you wish take a dip at the hot springs along the route)

Options and Rentals
Sleeping bag rent: US$ 5.00 per day. Our sleeping bags are –8ºC-comfort (0ºF). They are cleaned after every use and have a maximum usage of 20 trips.
Personal horse and horsemen for riding or carrying extra personal belongings while on the trek. Extra cost is $40 for all trek.
Therm-a-rest inflatable sleeping pad rent: US$ 5.00 per day.
