Inca Trail to Machu Picchu Description |
This traditional Inca Trail variation is for persons that would want to do the trek calmly and visit the Machu Picchu citadel as long as possible this is the best known trek among the tourists. The hike is approximately 45 kms, long and it takes 5 days including the visit to the Archaeological site of Machu Picchu. The nature surrounding it is breath taking with impressive views of the snow capped mountains and through the jungle in the middle of astonishing archaeological remains it’s an unforgettable experience.

Itinerary
Day 1: CUSCO – CHILCA – PISCACUCHO
Our tour starts with the pick up from your hotel early in the morning in our private bus for a spectacular trip through the Sacred Valley of the Incas that will take us to the Inca Trail starting point of Piscacucho Km.82 of the train tracks to Machu Picchu. Once we’ve being introduced to the support personnel we’ll depart starting this adventure walking through the hanging bridge that will take us to this magical and religious trail. A two hour hike through the Urubamba canyon to arrive to the Llaqtapata sculpted terraces the first archaeological site located in a beautiful natural settlement near the flowing river, the Cusichaca. Continuing with our hike we’ll climb through a short trail up the valley to Wayllabamba approximately a two hour hike, which will take us to our first campsite where we’ll stay for the night and enjoy our meals.
Overnight Piscacucho.
Day 2: HUAYLLABAMBA – PACAYMAYU
Very early in the morning we’ll climb the hillside of Wiñaywayna to start our second day. Today we’ll climb 1200 meters. during our hike we will pass through a torrent river and we’ll enter a tropical area known as cloud forest where we’ll observe the wonderful Queuñuas forest that will take us to the Llulluchapampa and cross a small plateau and abruptly find ourselves in the highland, the praires depopulated of trees where we will have an spectacular view of the Warmy Wañusca (dead woman pass), located at 4200 m.a.s.l. climbing to the mountain pass considered as the highest point of our trek with astonishing views of the second pass and see at our backs the dramatic view of the snow capped mountains and valleys of the Huayanay. We continue descending to the Pacaymayu valley located at 3600 m.a.s.l. where our campsite will be ready for us. Dinner, camping.

Day 3: PACAYMAYU – CHAQUICOCHA – PHUYUPATAMARCA
Early in the morning after breakfast we’ll start climbing to the second pass located at 3900 m.a.s.l. Where we will find Inca stairs and ascending this stairs we’ll find the small archaeological site of Runcuracay. Before we arrive to the second pass we will walk near a lagoon on top of the mountain where the landscape opens for us with spectacular views of white peaks of the Pumasillo mountain range. The trail is now more apparent and will take us descending to the Sayacmarka (inaccessible town) archaeological site, an intricate labyrinth of houses, plazas, water channels, precariously hanging on top of a rocky spur that dominates the Aobamba valley. The Inca trail is now a great structure of granite cobblestones reinforced by high containment walls that continues along the steep edge of the cloud forest and through abundant colourful vegetation like orchids, bromeliads, mosses and ferns. On our hike through Chaquicocha after a well deserved rest we’ll enter the rain forest on the trail that leads us to the highest Inca construction denominated Phuyupatamarka place for our last campsite. Dinner.

Day 4: PHUYUPATAMARCA - WIÑAYWAYNA – MACHU PICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES
After breakfast we will start a long descend through an endless and impressive stairs of live rock. Making a stop to explore the wonderful labyrinth of water ponds, stairs and stone towers built by the Incas that role down the Phuyupatamarka hillside afterwards we’ll continue Ruth the descend through different floors always changing that will take us to the magical citadel of Wiñaywayna (Always Young), the biggest and most exquisite of the archaeological sites on the Inca trail. Place for our last lunch and where will say goodbye to our support personnel to continue with our hike to the Inti Punku (Sun gate), entrance to the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, from this point the view will be unforgettable. We’ll descend to the control gate to board our bus down to Aguas Calientes village and check-in in our hotel.

Day 5: AGUAS CALIENTES Machu Picchu CUSCO
Early in the morning we’ll board our bus up to the Machu Picchu citadel where we will have a guided tour for approximately 2 hours afterwards we’ll have the morning free for taking pictures and on our own climb the Huaynapicchu we’ll descend in a bus back to Aguas Calientes where we will board our train back to Cusco, reception and transfer to your hotel.

- Igloo tents - 2 persons in each 4-person capacity tent with plenty of space for your backpacks.

What we recommended that you Bring?
- A backpack with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek
- Rain gear (jacket and pants if available) or rain poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco)
- Strong footwear, waterproof trekking boots recommended
- Sandals or jogging shoes for a higher comfort while at camp
- Warm clothes, including jacket, fleeces. Thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for sleeping. A down jacket is especially recommended for this trek since it runs at high altitude and temperatures may easily drop below freezing in the evening and at nights
- Camera, films and batteries (batteries consume more quickly under cold conditions)
- Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain and cold
- Sun block
- After-sun cream or hydrating cream for face and body
- Snacks: biscuits, energy bars, chocolate, raw fruits, muesli, etc. Please note that we do provide a daily morning snack.
- Small towel

Options and Rentals
Sleeping bag rent: US$ 5.00 per day. Our sleeping bags are –8ºC-comfort (0ºF). They are cleaned after every use and have a maximum usage of 20 trips.
Personal Porter carrying extra personal belongings while on the trek. Extra cost is $80 for 4 Days Trek.
Therm-a-rest inflatable sleeping pad rent: US$ 5.00 per day.
