Huchuy Qosqo Trek Description |
This is a short trek in the surroundings of Cusco. It departs from Piuray lake, in Chinchero, and arrives at Huchuy Qosqo or “Little Cusco”, which is an important but little visited archaeological center located in a privileged spot overlooking the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will be using Inca trails, crossing mountain passes and high Andean communities, while enjoying a wide diversity of endemic flora and fauna as well as Inca ruins. It is a great trek for people with little time who want to experience adventure at its most.

Itinerary
Day 1: Piuray lake - Huchuy Qosqo archaeological center:
Morning pick-up from the hotel to take us to Piuray lake in the community of Chinchero. Here we will be met by the horses and porters. After loading our equipment, we will start the trek by an ancient uphill Inca trail. After crossing a lake and a mountain pass (4,450 masl / 14,600 ft) we will start descending by a creek that is surrounded by Inca walls and houses, until we reach Huchuy Q’osqo, where we will be camping. Our campsite will be located on an Inca terrace that sits on top of the complex overlooking the Sacred Valley and its breathtaking snow-capped mountains with the ruins below.
Day 2: Huchuy Qosqo - Lamay Town - Cusco:
After enjoying a healthy breakfast we will visit this important Inca complex, home to the great Inca Wiracocha. Soon after, we will descend for two to three hours to Lamay, enjoying the view of Urubamba mountain range’s spectacular snow-capped mountains, as well as the Sacred Valley’s towns and crop fields. Our transport will then pick us up and take us back to Cusco.
